How radically poetic multidisciplinary performance can be was demonstrated by siblings Adam and Amina Seid Tahir at the 2023 Summer Festival with their internationally acclaimed work SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AT BRAIDING MY WAY HOME. Now, Adam Seid Tahir returns solo with the world premiere AND FROM THEIR HAIR, UNENDING FOREST, once again exploring Norse culture from a queer, Black perspective. The rune Thurisaz is associated with giants, beings who, in Norse mythology, are cast as enemies of the gods and linked to chaos, threat, and otherness. Tahir examines these attributions and draws parallels to the marginalization of People of Color. At the center is the figure of Ymir, an intersex being who was murdered and from whose body the world emerged. Through the geography of death, afterlife, and the non-linearity of time, the stage becomes a world of transformation: a place where the body becomes weather, where hair becomes unending forests, where anger, sadness, and grief intertwine. With an engaging movement language and immersive sound, Adam Seid Tahir invites the audience into an atmospheric world of myth and legend.
