DECOLONIAL GAZE connects (activist) knowledge with artistic interpretations and presents it in an immersive digital experience, where users overcome the huge physical distance between continents and see the hidden stories behind the visible. The first part, »Chapter 1: Saltpetre« is about the history and leftovers of the unilaterally lucrative saltpetre mining industry between the city of the profiteers, Hamburg, and the country of the exploited, Chile. Thanks to the digital possibilities, the respective results are exchanged and played on the users' mobile devices. The website “decolonialgaze.com“ provides detailed information and additional archive material which is collected by both teams. The second part will be available in Hamburg in march 2023.

A project by Nadine Jessen and Sirwan Ali

A cooperation bewteen Festival Santiago á Mil in Santiago de Chile and Kampnagel, Hamburg.
