Rarely has rock music been so lively, exciting and – queer. The 38-year-old guitarist, singer and composer recently released an album with David Byrne and developed an opera with Robert Wilson. Her third album, »Hunter,« is a musical manifesto for overcoming gender restrictions. The trained violinist’s gender-fluid songs are dramas filled with contrasts – subtle guitar and keyboard patterns develop into opulent climaxes emphasizing Calvi’s unconventional voice. In addition Anna Calvi asked Queer (party-)activist and Bubble mastermind Yeşim to play a warm-up DJ set before the show.
