Banda, Bernadette, Brecht

Banda Internationale, the rally-experienced brass band who toured through Dresden's first reception camp in 2015 to recruit and include refugee musicians in the band, and Bernadette la Hengst, the pop agitation chanteuse from Berlin, are familiar with various demos and campaigns against Pegida, Höcke and the like. Both of them always had the utopia of a cosmopolitan coexistence in mind, brought people of different origins together and worked on the commonalities: diversity instead of culture and a coexistence instead of anger and disappointment. Flight and displacement is a phenomenon as old as mankind itself. Nobody leaves their homeland, their language, their culture lightly. Bertolt Brecht, the poet and playwright from Augsburg, also found it difficult to leave his home and thus also his language area. His writings are full of pain over exile and the shame of his German origin:

O Deutschland, bleiche Mutter! (O Germany, pale mother!) Wie sitzest du besudelt (How do you sit tainted) Unter den Völkern. (Among the peoples.) Unter den Befleckten (Among the stained) Fällst Du auf. (You stand out.)

Banda and Bernadette will now try this Brecht. Will brush him with and against the grain and sometimes exchange his gruesome cigar for a decent shisha. Pop against right and international brass music for everyone!
