Barry Burns (Mogwai)

When we asked Douglas Gordon what he’d like for the post-premiere event of his music performance, BOUND TO HURT, he asked for Barry Burns. In his day job, Burns is a member of Mogwai, one of the world’s biggest post-rock bands. Since the ‘90s, the band has progressively set new standards for musical innovation and experimentation. But Burns doesn’t just let loose on stage: For some time now, he’s been running a bar in Berlin – a city that both Burns and Gordon now call home. In his »old Berliner-style corner bar« – with the programmatic name of Das Gift – you can find Scottish ale, a dart-room-turned-art-gallery and a jukebox filled with playlists by artist friends, including Robert Smith (The Cure) and Irvine Welsh. Barry Burns’ DJ sets are as legendary as Das Gift’s parties. He becomes Mogwai’s extended tone arm, combining his passion for indie music with dance-floor beats to craft sweat-inducing thrills. In Addidtion to this, Fidel Bastro Label-Boss and drummer of Boy Division will spin some singles.
