‘For me, freestyle is an intense expression of my inner self’ Chanel

In her two-week residency, Hamburg hip-hop dancer Chanel explores the various influences on her freestyle dance. Having grown up with Kosovan culture, she reflects on how the image of women conveyed there in traditional dances and rituals characterises her own dance style. In her residency, Chanel wants to critically examine these influences from a feminist perspective and explore what the concepts of resistance and belonging mean to her, transform her movements and experiment with hip-hop without losing her own style.

In a public show, Chanel invites the audience to join her in delving into the depths of Albanian womanhood and to experience the transformation of movements that preserve both her tradition and her personal expression.
