Somewhere in the textures of the now, Montreal dancer-choreographers Ellen Furey and London-based New Yorker Malik Nashad Sharpe dance this beautiful gender fluid duet. To Yung Hurn’s seemingly endless looped dreams of and appeals to togetherness (»Baby will you chill and stuff / Fly with me through Vienna and stuff«) the white-clad couple repeats an episode of small movement phrases of little hops, bounces and lunges so perfectly coordinated that you don’t want them to stop. SOFTLAMP.AUTONOMIES aims at a pluralistic aesthetic of vaporwave, a music and art movement that sprang as a descentral internet phenomenon of net culture in the 2010s. In the space, bathed in juxtaposed shades of blue, the ar tists indulge in a search for possibilities beyond authoritarian and coercive visions, using dance to rethink new subjectivities.
