WUW - Wind und Wand
The dance performance for young audiences portrays a play between the elements of wind and wall. It represents the ambivalent relationship between children and their parents during a time of transition, a complex emotional world, and the gap that can arise between one’s own expectations and reality. No longer a child, but not yet a teenager—the period before puberty is both formative and challenging. At the same time, it is a playful journey filled with surprises, adventures, and unexpected changes.
For the ZINADA collective, consisting of Jihun Choi and Jin Lee, growing up felt like standing in front of a solid wall. Wind, on the other hand, has a highly flexible nature: it can be a powerful storm or a gentle, pleasant breeze. Inspired by the way wind changes its form, ZINADA explores creative ways in WUW to overcome barriers.
In 2022, the South Korean artists Jin Lee and Jihun Choi founded the collective ZINADA. Their performances are based on the extreme sensitivity of the physical body, on repetition, rituals, sounds, silence, movement, and emotions. ZINADA’s work is a continuous search for the intersection between dance performance and various genres, a constant return to the creative space where interwoven bodies permeate one another. Jin Lee and Jihun Choi create individual dance performances, building unique worlds for both young and adult audiences.
The pop-up piece “WUW – Wind and Wall” was created as part of explore dance – Network Dance for Young Audiences. These mobile pop-up pieces for children and young people of different age groups are presented with minimal technical requirements in schools, museums, galleries, cultural centers, outdoors, as well as in theater spaces, and they tour nationwide and internationally.
