Five young white people stand leaning close together on a silver escalator. The wall behind them is tiled in blue. They wear jackets in red, pink, blue and brown and look sideways at the camera with a friendly, calm expression.

The glaciers have melted, thick haze smoulders in the valleys – only the snow-covered peak of Monte Rosa glitters promisingly in the morning sun. The mountain calls and three nameless mountaineers answer: well stretched and greedy for clean high altitude air, these Sisyphus figures are always chasing the next peak with merciless optimism. Encounters remain random, faces are quickly forgotten. Along the abyss, their very own laws and manners prevail; the next rockfall is sure to come, whoever looks back has lost.

In MONTE ROSA, Austrian playwright Teresa Dopler releases three driven people into an absurd-comic end-time scenario in which not only the rock layers begin to erode. With piercing precision she observes the peculiar interactions of a species that was once human.
