The Hamburger Kammerballett was founded by Edvin Revazov and Isabelle Rohlfs in the summer of 2022. In response to Russia’s war offensive against Ukraine in February of that year, the Hamburg Ballett and Kampnagel collaborated on a pilot project with displaced Ukrainian dancers. The first joint project premiered at Kampnagel in June 2022. This sparked the idea of providing the displaced Ukrainian dancers with a new home and stable structure in the long term, both artistically within the newly founded Hamburger Kammerballett and socially. Within a few months, the Hamburger Kammerballett was established. Since then, the ensemble has positioned itself as a space for artistic resistance, visibility, and survival through dance. The ensemble combines classical and neoclassical dance with current social issues in its work. Personal biographies and political reality are inseparably intertwined and translated into stage works. Consisting of six dancers aged 21 to 30, the ensemble embodies an art form that moves people personally, politically, and poetically. Since its founding, Kampnagel and the Hamburger Kammerballett have maintained a close and regular collaboration. In April 2027, the company will premiere a new work on the k6 stage.
