Holly Herndon

Holly Herndon is a leading light in electronic music who fearlessly experiments within the outer reaches of dance and pop music.

The Tennessee born artist spent her formative years in Berlin‘s techno scene before relocating to San Francisco as a doctoral candidate at Stanford‘s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics. With her debut album »Movement«, released in 2012, Herndon already showcased her fascination with trance and the disjunctive sampling techniques pioneered by avant-garde composition. Now her second album »Platform« (4AD / RVNG) is a galvanizing statement that cements Herndon’s reputation as a unique musician with a singular voice, opening up her process to vital artists and thinkers from her creative circle, including radical Dutch design studio Metahaven, composer and drag performer Colin Self and contemporary artist Spencer Longo. Rarely has musical and technological progress been so audible as in Holly Herndon’s soundscapes of looped voice, chrome-sparkling sounds and erratic beats. Support comes from her collaborators, the hyped producer duo Amnesia Scanner, whose electronic dance music completely redefines how and what we will hear in the future. The concert will be framed by the Summerfestival’s presentation of Holly Herndon’s installation in the Kunstverein Hamburg throughout the festival. In addition Holly Herndon will also do an artist talk at Kunstverein on Friday, August 21 at 5pm.
