Don Pablo Mulemba
Reading & Discussion: Hundeheimat – Der Osten, meine Familie und andere Wunder (Rowohlt, 2026)
As a child, journalist and author Don Pablo Mulemba, the son of an Angolan contract worker and an East German woman, was constantly forced to explain his origins, even though he naturally identified as German. Having grown up in Berlin-Brandenburg and shaped by the upheavals of the post-reunification era and the “Springerstiefeljahre,” his biography becomes a quest to trace his roots. In HUNDEHEIMAT, Mulemba traces questions of identity and belonging all the way to Angola, painting a vivid panorama of a reunified country in conflict with itself.
