The charming conceptual artist duo enlivens post-pandemic urban space with living sculptures and interpersonal intimacy.
In the summer of 2017, Juan Dominguez could be seen all over Hamburg: On a Summer Festival campaign poster in the style of a politician and as an artist in the festival garden, where he also did stage living sculptures. The conceptual artist, curator and performance humorist Juan Dominguez had already won the hearts of the audience in the years before with his multi-part, humorously conceptual community-building series CLEAN ROOM. Together with his artistic partner Arantxa Martínez, he has now developed a new challenge for the Hamburg audience: With eight local performers, the two are designing living sculptures and one-on-one performances over three weeks in Hamburg that bring intimacy, sexuality and interpersonal closeness back into Hamburg's urban space. While in the months of social distancing the public space has become a potential thread and physical closeness an absolute no-go, THIS IS NOT NORMAL counters the loss of proximity with choreographed intimacy as an intervention in public space.
The interventions begin daily at 16:00 and 17:30, the first part is always an open situation for all spectators and passers-by. For the second part, you can register spontaneously and free of charge on site. Just come by!
