The classic way to end the festival: karaoke craziness with big feelings and a big orchestra.

This is what happens when you combine Hamburgs famous karaokebar Thai-Oase and the Elbphilharmonie. Rarely do high and mass culture come so close as in the Summer Festival’s annual orchestra karaoke. The popular event, which will be moderated by Matthias von Hartz and conducted by Jan Dvorak, is self-explanatory. The pop catalogue, which has been given shrewd orchestral arrangements, ranges from Deichkind to Madonna. A member of the audience is allowed on stage and can give his or her all into the microphone, accompanied by the strings, drums and wind instruments of the Junge Symphoniker Hamburg. In classic karaoke style, the lyrics are projected onto two projection screens for both the performer and the audience. The audience members do passionately sing along, germinating a better tomorrow full of love, optimism and violins. It’s the most euphorigenic thing you can imagine, short of seeing a baby seal.
