One production after another, from on residency to the next rehearsal studio, performances here and workshops there – the production logic and high mobility in the performing arts leave little time for a continuous development of one´s own artistic work and are even less sustainable from an ecological point of view. Residencies should ideally provide a space to escape the normal production processes and have effects beyond the produtcion. But what conditions are needed and what experiences have been made by artists in reality? What are institutions hoping to get out of residencies for their city and how can internationally touring artists and a local scene meet? And, last but not least, who is able to take part in formats like these?
