In BLACK EURYDICE / SCHWARZE EURYDIKE / EURYDICE NOIRE, kainkollektiv investigates the systematic exclusions that occurred with the implementation and emergence of European opera: the position of woman and women and the contemporaneous onset of colonial history. An (Afro)futuristic, feminist, and postcolonial counter opera will be devised from the analysis of Claudio Monteverdi’s “Orfeo”, which may possibly even be the first opera altogether, with its title only naming the male protagonist. Together with five contemporary composers from Cameroon, South Africa, Iran, Canada, and Europe, who overwrite the baroque music with visionary contemporary compositions, a new vision of a future for musical theatre comes up in the form of a digitally drawn live performance superheroine story.

Six women stand in front of a microphone. The woman directly in front of the microphone has a disco ball clamped under her arm. Directly behind her is a woman with a white cloud headdress. To the right are two women with large glasses.

A black woman in a golden jumpsuit walks from left to right in front of a dark, translucent curtain. There is fog behind the curtain and the woman is holding a bow and arrow in her hand. A person can be vaguely recognised behind the curtain on the right.

In the foreground, a woman is leaning up from a blanket on the floor. Next to her, another person in a colourful coat can be seen in the shadows. A blue face appears above the upper right half of the photo, like a reflection in a window
