She is one of the greatest voices in the Arabic-speaking world, with a close relationship to Kampnagel. For the fourth time in ten years, Lena Chamamyan takes to the stage in the large hall K6, building bridges between the Middle East and the West. The Syrian-Armenian singer, who composes and produces her own songs, weaves Arabic maqam tradition together with Armenian melodies and Western jazz into a contemporary world music style that is entirely her own.
Born in Damascus and trained there at the Higher Institute of Music as a dramatic soprano, Chamamyan has since 2016 revived Syrian, Armenian, and Bahraini folk music with modern arrangements across several albums. She also shapes contemporary Arabic pop with her own compositions. Her voice expresses both nostalgia and new beginnings — it is both archival and present time at once. Once again, accompanied by her East-West chamber ensemble, she will now demonstrate that live performances can inspire entire halls to sing along.
