The most exciting musical link between East and West: Lena Chamamyan, one of Syria’s most dazzling performers, comes to Hamburg. The Syrian-Armenian singer is a true musical innovator who combines folk and Arab and Armenian musical forms with contemporary ones, melds Eastern and Western harmonies, sings in five different languages and has, in a way, become a utopian pop voice for Syria’s future. She creates nothing less than a popular musical style beyond borders. Chamamyan plays numerous instruments, composes and produces herself, and has performed on some of the biggest stages of the world. For several years now, Chamamyan has been living in Paris, where she collaborated with European musicians and made her most recent album, »Ghazal El-Banat (Cotton Candy)«. It contains 12 mostly sad but certainly hopeful songs, dedicated mainly to women and children. It also tells the story of a woman who moved to Europe and had to restart her life and career in a new place. At the Summer Festival, this exceptional artist will be performing her first solo concert in Germany since 2006, and will rehearse and perform a new program, accompanied by six musicians. The concert promises to import a Damascene air to the stage tinted with an improvisational spirit.
