The tale of a once powerful, “highly developed” civilization that fell and has since disappeared without a trace provides a template for those who want to obscure their fascist world narratives and make them seem harmless. For example, there’s the idea, popular among Nazis, that the “Aryans” originated in Atlantis and that Heligoland is a remnant of this ancient civilization. The Hamburg directors Meera Theunert and Dor Aloni invite the audience to an island trip, which, together with the author Simoné Goldschmidt-Lechner, aims to take you down the darkest, most winding paths of the current climate denial discourse on a tour of the island.
