In BUILT TO LAST Meg Stuart confronts her five-piece dance ensemble with a multi-layered dramaturgy of stunning symphonic works, including pieces by Rachmaninoff, Beethoven and Dvorak. They all evoke thoughts of great utopias and mark milestones in musical development. As if they were travelling in a time machine, the dancers are transported into changing situations and states of consciousness by compositions, props or video elements. Encounters with historical and musical monuments open up a view of hidden human desires, which the creative choreographer continually explores in her works. American Meg Stuart is the leader of one of Germany’s most important dance ensembles, based in Brussels and Berlin and touring the world.
