Some artists don't live long but leave a huge footprint in short years. Among them is the jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker, who succumbed to his ecstatic lifestyle at the age of 35 and after whose nickname Bird the most famous jazz club in the world was named – the New York »Birdland«. On the occasion of Parker's 100th birthday, the NDR Bigband with chief conductor Geir Lysne is playing a Parker arrangement by the award-winning US saxophonist and composer Chris Byars, one of the brightly shining stars in the jazz sky around the Smalls Jazz Club in Greenwich Village. In addition to the NDR Big Band, the Q4 quartet will also be dedicating itself to Charlie Parker in the second NDR Jazz concert at Kampnagel in December.
