Jack Halberstam

In his latest book, “Anarchitecture After Everything”, Jack Halberstam revisits the radical architectural interventions of Gordon Matta-Clark and the ‘Anarchitecture’ movement, reinterpreting them through the lens of transness. Cutting, opening, removing and unbuilding are thus seen not as acts of destruction, but as transformative practices that enable new ways of inhabiting bodies, spaces and worlds. In the context of the extensive refurbishment of Kampnagel, this perspective takes on a particular urgency. When walls are opened up, structures exposed and spaces reimagined, the building site itself becomes a field of artistic, social and political possibilities. Halberstam’s keynote explores how practices of breaking open and dismantling can disrupt existing orders and create openings for new social, political and embodied futures. The building site is seen not as a state of deficiency or interruption, but as a productive condition of becoming.
