BLACK SWAN is an emotionally moving and technically impressive solo – with the stage and body shrouded in darkness and his voice distorted through a vocoder, Richard Siegal sings, speaks, moans and recites poetry. Through almost baroque-style, lavish contact with words there emerges a mesmerising interplay between live intonation and projection as script. Richard Siegal’s BLACK SWAN is simultaneously truly melancholic and an elegiac seducer. As provocative as it is fragile, this solo is one of the most impressive works of his career so far. On his quest for a deeper understanding of choreography, Siegal, former dancer with William Forsythe and recipient of the city of Munich’s 2013 dance prize, collaborates with architects, software engineers and sound artists.
