In an in depth dialogue Angéla Kóczé, Assistant Professor at the Central European University in Romani Studies & Giovanni Picker, Assistant Professor of Sociology of Inequality at the University of Glasgow highlight key elements in the representation of Roma in Europe and embed them in contemporary discourses around diversity, integration and assimilation. By tracing the contours of various Roma emancipation movements and cultural as well as activist productions, they highlight possibilities for poetics and narratives of social heterogeneity through which stereotyping, as well as hegemonic notions of Roma diversity and identity, can be challenged, disrupted and reoriented.
