Rufus Wainwright

Rarely has a concert been as special as that of Rufus Wainwright in September 2020 at Kampnagel. In the middle of the pandemic, the Canadian-American composer and musician came with his German husband to Hamburg from LA for his only European concert and performed for the first time live songs from his new album »Unfollow The Rules«. He now keeps the promise to the long cheering audience to return with band when the pandemic situation has eased (after having already performed his program »Mother« at the Kampnagel 2021 Summer Festival in the Elbphilharmonie). »Unfollow The Rules« is Wainwright's coming out as a mature songwriter, the sonic overcoming of a biographical life field of wounds and pain. And it is the pleasurable camp extension of pop history by a dazzling artist whose work includes two operas, symphonic pieces, film and theater scores, Grammy nominations and now nine studio albums.
