Jimetta Rose, a prominent figure in the Los Angeles music scene, will present her latest musical emanation in Hamburg, the cross-generational choir Voices of Creation. With this community choir, singer and composer Rose builds on her days as a youth choir director at a Pentecostal church. By expanding gospel sounds to include jazz, soul and funk influences, Rose also reflects her career: as a vocalist she has been involved with a remarkable amount of progressive R&B and rap recordings; on solo albums, she broke down the boundaries between jazz, soul and hip-hop; and with reworks of songs like “Sleeping Beauty” by Sun Ra Rose expressed her idea of music as a spiritual force. Last year, she released “How Good It Is“ with the Voices of Creation: an album so suffused with love, light and groove, one immediately understands why Jimetta Rose keeps talking about healing in the context of music. The self-declared queen, who last performed on the Kampnagel stage with Carsten Meyer at Überjazz Festival in 2018, is now bringing all the positive, spiritual gospel power with the Voices of Creation to St. Gertrud Church. As one of her songs aptly puts it, “Can you feel the spirits up above?”
