»Currency« is the theme of the 8th Triennial of Photography Hamburg, examining the production and global dissemination of images and their influence on social power relations and viewing patterns. Within this framework and together with Haus der Photographie/ Deichtorhallen, International Summer Festival will show works by young photographers who are part of the European funding platform »Futures« and who deal with exclusion, belonging and empowerment from systems of oppression from different perspectives. They show vulnerability and strength, fear and joy, alienation and community and produce new images about queerness, Blackness or migrant and Eastern European identity. BUT I’M AWAKE refers to a state of vigilance in times of political and social crisis and to a productive subversion of existing power relations and dominant visual habits.
