Shanti Vera / Cuatro X Cuatro

With his installational dance performance, HABITANTE, choreographer Shanti Vera creates nightmarish images of Mexico. The »inhabitants« of the grim stage set seem to have had their identities stolen – they are stuck in time loops as pure bodies. They complete their routines or passively react to their surroundings, they run and fall, dance danzón, dangle inertly from the ceiling, wriggle in endless cramps. Viewers are also made part of the tableau. In this period of historical violence, Shanti Vera sees the stage as a »space of safety and resistance against social chaos« – a space of artistic and social struggles which can appeal to forms of perception beyond the spectacular.
