In DIE SCHWARZE MÜHLE (The Black Mill), intergenerational for people aged 12 and over, the artists of Showcase Beat Le Mot draw on the original Sorbian saga of the material from which Otfried Preußler later created his “Krabat”. The focus of the adaptation is a ritual language that forms a magic spell “beyond good and evil” and creates a remarkable pull while listening: in midnight-blue chests, the audience can let themselves be driven through the Black Mill and the dark machine of the theatre, past the box with the seven locks that hides the miller’s magic book. Past twelve ravens who were still apprentices in the daylight, past magical music. Watching the box ballet from the outside is just as amazing and memorable as the ride in the chest is a spectacular, immersive theatrical experience. Between relaxed attention and restrained concentration, a world is created in which magic suddenly seems possible.
