Tamikrest

The band Tamikrest’s hybrid sound couldn’t be further from clichéd ideas of »world music.« They uniquely blend the musical tradition of the Tuareg nomads of northeastern Mali with modern genres like dub, funk and psychedelic rock. Western rock instruments are mixed with West African djembe and calabash drums. Tamikrest are now presenting their first album, »Kidal,« an homage to their hometown, which is a symbol of hope and resistance.
