For over three decades, the instrumental band Tortoise has stood as one of the most influential forces in contemporary music. Emerging from the Chicago underground, the quintet fused jazz, dub, krautrock, minimalism, psychedelia and post-punk into something so unprecedented, the music press had to invent a new genre name: "post-rock". Albums like MILLIONS NOW LIVING WILL NEVER DIE, TNT and STANDARDS became classics and earned the band international acclaim.

Now, Dan Bitney, John Herndon, Doug McCombs, John McEntire and Jeff Parker continue their sonic journey: TOUCH, their eighth studio album – and their first since 2016 – will be released on cutting-edge Chicago label International Anthem in partnership with Nonesuch Records. According to the label’s press release, the record is “aerodynamically refined krautrock, hand-cranked techno rave-ups and pointillist Italo-western fanfares – all permeated by Tortoise’s now-signature inner logic: equally seductive and confounding, a riddle meant more to be savored than solved.”

Following sold-out UK shows at London’s Barbican Centre, the “live marvel” (Rolling Stone) returns to Europe in 2026 – brimming with energy and their signature sense of playful precision.
