JE(U), Laurent Chétouane

The first part of the evening is JE(U), a solo by the dance and body philosopher Laurent Chétouane. He places a (psycho)analytical mirror in front of his Swedish dancer Mikael Marklund and challenges him to explore a new self-experience in dance. It is not the visual stimulus that should determine the movement, but rather the three-dimensional triad of self-determined physicality, its weight and materiality.

In the second part, the international prizewinning South African dancer and choreographer Vincent Sekwati Koko Mantsoe presents his solo performance GULA (BIRD). He traces birds’ movements and creates a fascinating dance piece between breakdance, ballet and tra- ditional African dance that suspends gravity. Connecting the two works rai- ses the question of authentic and au- tonomous self-anchoring in turbulent times as well as reflecting and testing one’s own identity in the other.
