In DECOLONYCITIES WINDHUK-HAMBURG, choreographer Yolanda Gutiérrez and Namibian artists go in search of traces of Hamburg's colonial past and literally take the audience on a journey that begins at the Museum of Hamburg History. The journey continues through the Old Elbe Park, past the Bismarck Monument to the harbour and on a launch into Baakenhafen. The performers from Windhoek occupy public space with dance interventions to decolonise various places through their artistic interpretations. Hamburg's history with its trade and port is determined by its colonial past. During the tour the audience will hear statements by the artists and critical texts on the interpretation of Hamburg's colonial history, always related to the perception of the former colonised. Parallel to the performance, two Namibian artists will deal with the representation of colonial history in the permanent exhibition at the Museum of Hamburg History in an open studio.
