Season opening at Kampnagel

The autumn metaphor embodies transition and change, awareness of the past and transformation, and thus the prerequisite for reflection and retrospection. Autumn is therefore the best time to herald the start of a very special season, which, under the motto "Legends of the Avantgarde" deals with what was and what is to come – artistically and politically, critically and euphorically. The extensive programme for the season opening (including the fantastic THE ROMEO by Trajal Harrell and a performative concert by Candice Breitz on the main stage!) covers a wide range of discourses and aesthetic practices. The upcoming renovation is reflected in our programme with an exhibition by the German Architecture Museum that deals with sustainable theatre architecture – fittingly, the KULTURFORUM invites you to discuss ‘The New Opera House’. A newly launched series of KAMPNAGEL TOURS provides insights into the grounds, buildings, history and present of Kampnagel – I will be kicking things off myself on 16 October. Of course, you can also look forward to a stage programme that is well worth seeing: with RAVE LUCID, the Mazelfreten company brings the urban style of electro dance from the clubs of Paris to the big stage at Kampnagel: a unique electro ballet with high-energy and rousing choreography. During the ATTITUDES weekend, the hip hop and club dance community will once again be guests at Kampnagel: performances, showings, workshops and parties invite you to learn more about the culture, history and practice of these diverse dance styles. From an ecological-decolonial perspective, Hamburg-based Mexican choreographer Yolanda Morales combines choreographer Yolanda Morales combines indigenous mythological narratives with current political developments and the global threat of global warming. With ANITO, Filipino-Australian artist Justin Talplacido Shoulder brings a visually powerful and sensual performance evocation to the stage, combining ancestral memory and speculative futurism. And the Hamburg-Berlin collective Sounding Situations entices the audience into the urban space to trace the multi-layered coexistence of everyday life in the present and the resonance of distant wars along the lines of Etel Adnan's text "To be in a time of war". Transform yourself with us!
