DO YOU BELIEVE ME? When the revolution in Tunesia started, Hafiz Dhaou together witch Aïcha M’Barek, both essential figures of the Tunesian contemporary dance scene, travelled to Beirut to work on a dance piece that they had been commissioned. A storm broke out inside of him. This is what he felt and what you can see in the performance.

Aïcha M’Barek and Hafiz Dhaou were both born in Tunis, and they have been creating dances together since 1995. Having first studied at the Music and Dance Conservatory of Tunis, Aïcha joined Hafiz as a member of the Sybel Ballet Théâtre, before working on a Masters degree in Art and Culture (Lyon 2). In 1995, the two artists toured with the Sybel Ballet Théâtre under the direction of Syhem Belkhodja, while at the same time studying cinematography at the Institut Maghrébin de Cinéma in Tunis. In 2000, Hafiz and Aïcha received a grant from the IFC of Tunis to study at the CNDC in Angers. In 2001, each began creating independent pieces: the quartet Inta Omri for Hafiz, and Essanaï (The craftsman) for Aïcha. A year later, Aïcha created the solo Le Télégramme, and Hafiz created the solo Zenzena (The Cell), both dealing with the idea of imprisonment, and both receiving favourable reviews from the jury at the CNDC/Angers. In 2003, Hafiz went to study in the Exerce programme under the direction of Mathilde Monnier, where he created a piece for seven dancers, h.M, seeking out sensitive areas in the masculine gender. In 2004, the two artists created the duo Khallini Aïch under the auspices of the Repérages Danse à Lille, exploring touch and the intimacy of the couple in confrontation. In 2005 they decided to create the Company CHATHA, bringing together their artistic aspirations. They created and presented two duets, Les Cartes postales Chorégraphiques (Choreographic Postcards), under the auspices of the project »The Art of Meeting,« conceived by Dominique Hervieu.
