There is only one person on this planet who can sing, »Fli Fli Fla Fla Flaschenpfand« and create a serious song with the potential to become a hit. Andreas Dorau, the eternally youthful singer, musician and pop poet, recently turned 50 in style. After writing »Fred vom Jupiter« at the age of 15, Dorau became a luminous neon unique figure on the German pop scene, who magnificently dominated the German New Wave strategy of eliciting meaning from everyday concepts. The pop linguist has now made the Central Library at Hamburg’s Hühnerposten the subject of his new album (»Aus der Bibliothek«, Bureau b). In the »little internet for haptics«, Dorau found quiet and material for songs, be it a science book about »Wasserstoff« or a text about the serial offender Fritz Honka (»Tannenduft«). Musically, Dorau remains Germany’s most original composer of catchy tunes, who effortlessly moves between styles, from Krautrock to electronic soft rock. Support: UiJuiJui, another example for German Superpop.
