Canadian choreographer Aszure Barton is an innovator of form with an impressive career: With works for the likes of the Bavarian State Ballet, the English National Ballet and the National Ballet of Canada, she has facilitated the evolution of highly specialized dance companies into the present. In addition, she is an Artist-in-Residence at the University of Southern California, along with colleagues including William Forsythe. In 2002, she founded her own company, Aszure Barton & Artists, with whom she has developed a comprehensive choreographic language. Now Barton and nine of her most trusted dancers will come to Hamburg for a two-month creation period to realize WHERE THERE‘S FORM in collaboration with Hauschka. The experimental pianist and composer plays in large concert halls, regularly composes for dance and was nominated for an Academy Award as a film composer. For WHERE THERE‘S FORM, Hauschka accompanied by cellist Insa Schirmer, will perform a live score that explores an intensive dialogue between dance and music. This transatlantic collaboration will take place against the backdrop of increasing dystopian rhetoric worldwide, in which language serves to escalate, discredit and sabotage a real debate. Barton and Hauschka, however, reveal passionate, smart bodies and sounds, which demonstrate humanity’s capacity for coexistence.
