Grand pop with bittersweet undertones, exclusively performed in a club context.

Appearances are deceiving when it comes to Baltimore pop-duo Beach House: Victoria Legrand’s soothing voice combined with Alex Scally’s long synthesizer chords and guitar arpeggios form hymnal sonic surfaces with somber depths. With their albums »Teen Dream« and »Bloom,« Legrand and Scally set off a dream-pop revival, reminiscent of bands like the Cocteau Twins. In 2015, they released an album, »Depression Cherry,« that was initially packaged in a red velvet sleeve and destined for best-of-year lists and featured more sparse instrumentation and reduced use of the drum machine. This was followed by the unexpected »Thank Your Lucky Stars,« an impressive »hypnotic head trip« (popmatters.com). Their concert on the big stage at Kampnagel that year was stunning and appropriately packed. Since then, Beach House have toured with an installation in galleries and museums, and are returning for an exclusive, intimate club concert at the Summer Festival before heading out to headline festivals.
