What do Rosalía, Johnny Cash and Zucchero have in common? They have all covered songs by Will Oldham, who in 2024 – performing under his stage name Bonnie 'Prince' Billy – not only gave one of the finest concerts in Kampnagel’s history, but has also just released “his best album of the (at least) last twenty years” (Rolling Stone): “We Are Together Again” finds hope in dark times through a sense of community, friendship and togetherness. The lion, which features in the title of two songs, does not roar here but sings softly and with an ageless voice, accompanied by Oldham’s subtle folk guitar and feather-light, soaring clarinet, strings or accordion; an album that stands in stark contrast to contemporary noise, “beautiful enough to make you cry” (Musikexpress). And as if made for the lofty halls of St. Gertrud’s Church, where Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, accompanied by a chamber ensemble, will perform songs from his new work as well as from his now 31-album-strong treasure trove of songs.
