Whether Depeche Mode now has a female singer, wondered Der Spiegel in its album of the week review of HALO ON THE INSIDE (Matador), the new album by Haley Fohr alias Circuit des Yeux. The critic was captivated by the "wonder- and shape-shifting superpowers" of the American musician, whose album was created during nocturnal sessions between 9 PM and 5 AM and features a powerful, hedonistic work born from synthesizer experiments and introspective ecstasy, blending dancefloor energy with postmodern pop anthems. Fohr’s songs are filled with mythological symbolism; they deal with overcoming fear and the ecstatic power of sex, love, and melodies. Produced by Andrew Broder (Bon Iver, Moor Mother), Fohr demonstrates her versatility with a voice spanning over four octaves, capable of immersing in John Carpenter-like atmospheres (CANOPY OF EDEN) as well as capturing transcendence musically (CATHEXIS). After concerts with Xiu Xiu and Jenny Hval ten years ago at Kampnagel, the 36-year-old is now returning with an album that is “even grander than what’s come before” (The Quietus).
Support comes from Minimal Schlager: Based between London and Berlin, the duo stands at the crossroads between Italo disco, the darker corners of new wave and forgotten sounds from the dive clubs of Berlin. Their new EP, "After Midnight", signals the progression of the band towards a more aggressive and darker sound, which is the result of three intense years of touring which has seen them play in sold out venues both in Europe and the US.
