LOVE & LABOUR
Ustad Noor Bakhsh
At 81, this Benju virtuoso opens the festival by blending folk and own tunes from Pakistan’s Makran coast.
Last year, the 81-year-old virtuoso sold out London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall at his first UK concert – now the musician from Pakistan’s Balochistan region on the Makran coast opens the Summer Festival. Playing the Benju, a keyed zither, Baksh weaves folk melodies and his own compositions into a warm, driving summer sound.
