Canadian Daniel Lanois is responsible for several important recordings in recent music history. As a highly coveted producer, he has worked with Brian Eno on U2’s important pop projects, »Joshua Tree« and »Achtung Baby,« and has produced albums by Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Peter Gabriel. During this period, the multiinstrumentalist also recorded his own albums – calm, atmospheric and dense rock music infused with country and blues. As in his studio productions, Lanois never forces himself into the foreground – his priority is to create the most perfect sound possible. His recent work, »Goodbye to Language,« was created with a pedal steel guitar, and will be performed live by Lanois with guitarist Jim Wilson and drummer Kyle Crane. On this work, Lanois brings us back to his musical origins, from the sound of his childhood to his fascination with minimal- music groundbreaker Erik Satie (to whose »Ogives« you can see the Michael Clark Company dance the week before) in his youth to his radical experiments with Brian Eno. As different as his musical influences may be, to him his music always qualifies as soul. This is his first Hamburg appearance since his 2011 show at Fabrik.
