Switzerland isn’t just famous for mountain peaks and director Christoph Marthaler (p. xx); it also boasts a very exciting pop scene. Dino Brandão, who appeared at the 2021 Summer Festival alongside Sophie Hunger and Faber at the Elbphilharmonie, returns with his bittersweet 2024 debut “Self-Inclusion,” exploring themes like identity and illness through an enchanting mix of folk, noise-rock, and Afrobeat. Brandão also collaborates with Mel D—both as a member of Faber’s band and as a producer on her debut EP (co-produced by Renaud Letang of Chilly Gonzales fame). Mel D’s artful indie-pop songs captivated a sold-out Kampnagel audience opening for Timber Timbre in March. Now, at Summer Festival’s invitation, Brandão and Mel D share the stage to perform their songs live with a drummer. Closing the night, Egopusher’s ecstatic, gravity-defying club sounds—created live by violinist Tobias Preisig and drummer Alessandro Giannelli – unleash pure euphoria.
