During their two-week residency at Kampnagel, popping dancers Donya Ahmadifar and Virginia Breitenbaumer explore the connection between their cultural roots in Ahwaz, Iran and Nairobi, Kenya. Central to their artistic process are the sounds of the tombak and ngoma – traditional Iranian and Kenyan drums - which form a rhythmic base from which they expand their dance vocabulary. In this way they question and transform their learned movement forms and explore dance as an expression of identity, belonging and cultural resilience.
