The cult Detroit electronic project conjures the technological past while reminding us of the future.

The name Dopplereffekt disguises the secretive music project centered on Detroit producer Gerald Donald. Like his other project – the now-dissolved, legendary techno band Drexciya – they use a minimal, raw, electronic sound as a basis for a totally unique artistic universe strongly influenced by retro-futurist ideas. Their lyrics, which are performed by Michaela To-Nhan Bertel, often using a Vocoder, deal with scientific subjects like physics or biotechnology and refer, in the vein of Kraftwerk, to a past era in which technological progress still inspired utopian hope. The German name is also an homage to the Düsseldorf band and honors their important role in the emergence of techno music in Detroit. After a ten-year research phase, Dopplereffekt have released a new record on the Leisure System Label called »Cellular Automata«, which they will now perform live in their first-ever Hamburg appearance. The opening act will be ToutEstBeau from France (who will also appear as a mole in Philippe Quesne’s play) with his minimal-wave project, and afterwards electro expert Cindy Looper will DJ.
