The work of Hungarian choreographer and dancer Eszter Salamon is among the most emphatic European projects to assemble dance, music and staging. Her most recent pieces (also shown at Kampnagel) are formally precise and visually exciting evenings, reconsidering choreography as a comprehensive art form. The Summer Festival now presents the world premiere of her group performance MONUMENT O: HAUNTED BY WARS (1913—2013), the first part of a series about the relationship between choreography and history. Salamon looks at the past 100 years as a history of wars, and – together with six dancers – performs tribal-, folk- and popular dances originated from the conflict zones of all five continents. Embracing the approach of an archaeological history, this »dance of death« brings about an impressively sombre yet surreal scenario made of dance, light and sound.
