Fehler Kuti processes topics like racist migration politics to create transcultural sounds between analog 8 bit music and stumbling funk.
Fehler Kuti is the musical project of cultural scientist Julian Warner. Already the project name, which is a reference to the Nigerian Afrobeat musician and political activist Fela Kuti, indicates the approach of Warner's idea, namely to bring music and politics together. At the same time, this is done in the consciousness that in 2020, of course, this will no longer be possible seamlessly. Warner and his fellow musicians like Markus and Micha Acher and other musicians associated with the Weilheim based Band Notwist make productive use of the »flaw« of this idea. On the debut album »Schland is the Place for me« Fehler Kuti uses stumbling funk, 8 bit sounds and melancholic synth pads to adress racist migration politics or the effects of gentrification on Munich's nightlife. On the track »Interracial Love« you even think to hear a Bavarian revenant of the space jazz master Sun Ra. After a planned but cancelled concert at the Elbjazz Festival due to Covid-19, this is the first Hamburg concert of the six-piece live band.
Fehler Kuti aka. Julian Warner is also Part of Pandemic Talk: Procoronastinieren & diskutieren – Der Sommer der Krisen
