The Concerts Will Be Streamed Live And Saved In The ndr Mediathek (exception: The Concert Of Sophia Kennedy).

Waldbühne Kultursommer Special at Kampnagel – presented by NDR and ZEIT-Stiftung

18:00 PODCAST: EAT. READ. SLEEP. MIT GAST. Favorite books, new publications, bestsellers and a starter. This is the menu of the NDR Podcast »eat.READ.sleep«. The literary trio consistiong of Katharina Mahrenholtz, Daniel Kaiser and Jan Ehlert is planning a special live edition for the summer festival. It will be musical – in a literary sense. You can find a new episode of the podcast every fortnight on their website ndr.de/eatreadsleep.

20:30 FARHOT AND MOSTHARI HILAL IN CONVERSATION WITH MISCHA KREISKOTT (NDR) As a HipHop producer, Farhot creates rich and multi-layered tracks for some of Germanys biggest acts like Haftbefehl, Megaloh or Audio 88 & Yassin. With his solo record »Kabul Fire Vol. 2«, he opens up the perspective even more and creates a utopian sound of an Afghanistan with no war. Movie samples, traditional songs, big beats, catchy soul lines and lyrics by artist Moshtari Hilal melt to a rich and colorful canvas. In a conversation with NDR Kultur Neo presenter and music fan Mischa Kreiskott, Farhot and Moshtari Hilal talk about the diverse influences on the album, their collaboration, the beauty of transculturality, and they present samples from »Kabul Fire Vol. 2«.

Kanalbühne Kultursommer Special at Kampnagel – presented by NDR and ZEIT-Stiftung

20:00 – 21:15
SOPHIA KENNEDY Under the guise of pop, Sophia Kennedy combines show glam, wordplay of vaudeville and modernism of the club. Her debut album, which she presented at a sold-out summer festival concert in 2017, catapulted her onto the international music stage. After that, she first of all founded the electronic pop duo Shari Vari with Helena Ratka (who will also play at the Summer Festival on August 14 with her project Pose Dia), which in turn performed at the last Summer Festival. Now follows »Monsters«, Sophia Kennedy's second album, again produced by Mense Reents (Die Vögel, Die Goldenen Zitronen). What the Baltimore-born Hamburg resident builds up musically on the shaky ground of the present shows her »in a league with PJ Harvey, St. Vincent or Nadine Shah« (DER SPIEGEL) and receives rave reviews from the Guardian to the New Yorker. »Monsters« consists of disturbingly beautiful dark songs that deal with current themes such as loss and grief, in a stylistic diversity ranging from futuristic chanson to hip hop-influenced R&B. Sophia Kennedy is now exclusively playing her new album for the first time at the new Waldbühne in the Festival-Avant-Garten with a reduced audience capacity - before playing larger stages in the fall.

FESTIVAL AVANT-GARTEN INFO

Like last year, Hamburg's pearl of pleasure parks will be designed by JASCHA&FRANZ - conceptually accompanied by the long-time festival associated performance group JAJAJA and extended by a Waldbühne by Urs Amadeus Ulbrich and Gras & Steine. With references to fun fairs and theme parks and with a concept for accessibility, the Festival Avant-Garden offers various areas with installations, performances, culinary delights from the Peacetanbul Restaurant and a daily changing program on several open-air stages and the Migrantpolitan building (details in the program overview).

Capacity is limited due to the pandemic and access is only possible with a personalized ticket (3€, available in advance and at the box office). With a ticket for another festival performance on the same evening you can enter the garden for free - as long as there is enough capacity, otherwise there might be bridgeable waiting times. Seated areas in front of the various garden stages will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Details about hygiene rules on site will be published here in due time.
