18:00 – 19:00 BOY DIVISION After successful formats such as the Boylympics, the Kanalphilharmonie and the Fernsehgarten, the Kampnagel residents and class clowns of the Hamburg school are now back with their main focus, the unplugged concert. Thanks to tried-and-tested minimalistic instrumentation, bar stools at the mini-drumkit and of course the obligatory megaphone, Hamburg's best-dressed cover band reenforces its tested guerrilla-gig resistance and adaptability, even after almost two and a half decades.
20:00 – 21:00 JOHANNA ADORJÁN: Lesung: »Ciao« Johanna Adorján studied theater and opera directing, subsequently moving into journalism. Well-known for her work in the »Süddeutsche Zeitung«, she has become one of the most unconventional voices in the German newspaper cultural sections. Her first book, »An Exclusive Love,« was published in 2009 and has been translated into 16 languages; now she presents her second novel »Ciao«, published by Kiepenheuer & Witsch. »Ciao« is the story of Hans Benedek, a man who no longer understands the world of today. He remains the same as he has always been, but notices that no one takes him seriously anymore. By utilising his day-job as a features writer and working on a reportage about a young feminist, Hans attempts to find his way back to the present. But the present, it seems, has conspired against him.
Adorján paints a sparkling picture of the social change that is currently reordering our world; the story is an entertaining hell-ride from the age of the declining patriarchy. Johanna Adorján comes to the Summer Festival for one of the first public readings from »Ciao« and will talk about her book, and perhaps the phenomenon of the present, in a conversation afterwards. This event is in German.

FESTIVAL AVANT-GARTEN INFO
Like last year, Hamburg's pearl of pleasure parks will be designed by JASCHA&FRANZ - conceptually accompanied by the long-time festival associated performance group JAJAJA and extended by a Waldbühne by Urs Amadeus Ulbrich and Gras & Steine. With references to fun fairs and theme parks and with a concept for accessibility, the Festival Avant-Garden offers various areas with installations, performances, culinary delights from the Peacetanbul Restaurant and a daily changing program on several open-air stages and the Migrantpolitan building (details in the program overview).
Capacity is limited due to the pandemic and access is only possible with a personalized ticket (3€, available in advance and at the box office). With a ticket for another festival performance on the same evening you can enter the garden for free - as long as there is enough capacity, otherwise there might be bridgeable waiting times. Seated areas in front of the various garden stages will be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Details about hygiene rules on site will be published here in due time.
HERE you will find all the latest information and Corona rules for your visit.
