The Quietus

In 2023, Florence Adooni and Hamburg’s keyboard wizard Erobique closed the Überjazz Festival with what Hamburger Abendblatt called an “electrifying finale.” Adooni, one of Ghana’s most powerful new voices, fuses the spiritual gospel of the Frafra people in northern Ghana with the vibrant pulse of West African Highlife. Following local releases and collaborations with artists like Jimi Tenor, Guy One, and Alogte Oho, Adooni issued a series of singles on Berlin label Philophon. These led to festival invites from Roskilde to End of the Road. Now, with her debut album “A.O.E.I.U.” (An Ordinary Exercise In Unity) – released in February 2025 and produced by Philophon founder Max Weissenfeldt – she delivers “an extraordinary, rejuvenating, and soulful release that’s one of the year’s best so far” (PopMatters). Sung in English and Frafra, its seven tracks blend pop, soul, spiritual jazz, and Ghanaian rhythms into a timeless, joyful groove – perfect for summery festival nights.
